Real Play

Real Play is a new way to tackle old problems. Participants describe a real problem they are having in the workplace. This provides an opportunity to explore new and different approaches to a situation they are experiencing in the workplace.

Skilled actors take on the essence of the person in question. It could be the intimidating direct report, the disgruntled team member or the colleague who isn’t pulling their weight. In fact, any situation that is proving to be difficult, delicate or resolved can be examined and improved in a Real Play.

Participants are encouraged to articulate the skills or behaviours they might want to practice. Powerful learning occurs because the process relates directly to real life circumstances. A new constructive approach can be rehearsed with the actor, and habitual but ineffectual methods of dealing with the situation can be recognised and adjusted.

Real Play usually occurs within small groups, with the actor and often an objective facilitator. All scenarios are treated with utmost confidentiality and respect, and work is carried out in a safe, supportive environment. A willingness to delve into ones habitual patterns of relating is fostered.

At Peers and Players we are passionate about this process and the tangible effects it can have in the workplace. Real Play has a very positive impact on the well-being and productivity of individuals and the organisations in which they work.
